About Us

Global Refugee Aid (GRA) is a UK-registered charity founded in 2018. We are dedicated to supporting refugees, internally displaced persons, and underserved populations, particularly women, girls, and individuals with albinism, in overcoming the unique challenges they face. Through trauma counselling, livelihood training, and health education, we empower these communities to rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience.

Our mission is to create opportunities for marginalized groups to thrive while addressing discrimination and fostering inclusion. A significant focus of our work is on improving health outcomes, including raising awareness and providing support for breast cancer and other critical health challenges. Together, we are making a meaningful difference and building a brighter future for displaced and underserved communities.

Our Initiatives

Healing & Mental Health Support

Providing trauma counseling and mental health services to refugees, helping them cope with PTSD and other challenges from conflict and displacement.

Livelihood and Skills Training

Offering vocational training and entrepreneurship programs to empower refugees, especially women and youth, to create sustainable livelihoods.

Support for Albino Refugees

Assisting refugees with albinism by providing skin protective gear, health education, and fighting the stigma they face in refugee communities.

Reproductive Health Education

Providing essential health education, training, and resources to young women and mothers in refugee camps to prevent health risks.

Our Achievements

GRA has established a network of community-based workers across refugee settlements, including Nakivale. These workers, who are refugees themselves, act as the ‘eyes and ears’ of their communities. They identify individuals and vulnerable families in need of assistance and provide them with ongoing care and support.

We have provided reproductive and maternal health training to over 160 teenage women, equipping them with vital knowledge to prevent pregnancy, AIDS, and other sexually transmitted diseases.

GRA also works with particularly disadvantaged and discriminated groups, including adults and children with albinism. We currently support a group of 85 individuals with albinism by distributing skin-protective equipment and delivering health education to prevent skin cancer. In addition, we conduct community-based campaigns to address and reduce the stigma that albino refugees face.

Another significant achievement is our ongoing work focusing on breast cancer across Africa. The lack of equipment and awareness often results in preventable and unnecessary deaths. To combat this, we are bringing better solutions, partnering with volunteer doctors and healthcare professionals who selflessly dedicate their expertise to helping underserved populations. Together, we are striving to improve access to care and save lives in some of the most vulnerable communities.
